Friday 18 April 2008
Just staying in Athens for an extra day and being a tourist before heading to Cremona, Italy, on Saturday.

Thursday 17 April 2008

I played the second round doubles match against Klec and Poch Gradin. Melle and I didn't play that great. We lost 6-3, 7-5.

Wednesday 16 April 2008

I played Martin Verkerk (NED). He is a French open finalist. It was one of those days. I didn't take the early chances and lost the set 6-7. In the second I was broken serve at 4-4. I had 3 break point chances but he served too well on the break points.

Tuesday 15 April 2008

Today in singles I was up against a Greek wildcard Paris Gemouchidis (GRE). I won 6-4, 6-0. I was a little nervous at the start of the match as I didn't know how he played. In the second set I got some confidence and finished the match well.

Monday 14 April 2008

I ended playing doubles with Melle Van Gemerden (NED). It's the first time we are teaming up together. We had to play Lacko and Zib. We won 6-3, 6-2. We played well today.

Saturday 12 April 2008

I departed for Athens for the next tournament. The weather was much better. I felt better as well.

Tuesday 8 April 2008

So again we were out of the tournament early and remained at the venue for practice. Wasnt pleasant as it rained for the entire week!

Monday 7 April 2008

Played against David Marrero (ESP) in the singles today. I played him last year in a club match and beat him 7-6 in the third set. It was a tough first round. I lost 6-4, 6-3. I reckon I had game points on every one of his services in the first set. Was a frustrating match.
I doubled up with Stephen Huss in the afternoon against Gremilmeyer and Gruel (GER). We lost 6-3, 6-7, 10-2! It was a dissapointing day

Sunday 6 April 2008

Stephen and I made our way to Monza yesterday. Talk about trains, plains and automobiles! That's all we were on for the entire day. We arrived in Monza late evening, ate and went to bed! We practiced today and saw the schedule of play. I was scheduled to play singles and doubles. Thats 2 weeks in a row now.

Tuesday 1 April 2008

So for the rest of the week I just practiced in St Briuec before heading to Monza Italy on saturday.

Monday 31 March 2008

Thanks to the tournament supervisor I had to play singles and doubles today. In singles I played Marc Lopez (ESP) and lost 6-2, 6-0! My first tournament on clay and just getting used to it all again. In doubles we lost 6-3, 6-4. We played pretty good but the opposition came up with some great points to win.

Friday 28 March 2008

Arrived in St Brieuc. The weather was cold and wet. I had a light practice session before heading to bed.

Thursday 27 March 2008

My time has come to depart God's country and make way for Europe. The great thing about it is that I'm going to be travelling with Stephen Huss for the next 7 weeks. Its taking us 10 years for us to do but finally the time has come. Our first tournament was in St Brieuc France.

Wednesday 12 March 2008

I was on the next flight out of there heading for Melbourne! I was going to make my friends wedding which was going to be a great day then I'll be spending the next 2 weeks there training before heading back to Europe.

Tuesday 11 March 2008

I was scheduled to play Rainer Shuttler (GER). Never played him before. He is a former top 10 player and it's going to be interesting to play him. I started the match well. Had 2 break points in the first game but didn't grab them. At 4-4 he broke my serve and he held to take out the first 6-4. The set could've gone either way. In the second set he had more confidence and went for more risks and they payed off. He won 4-6, 2-6.

Monday 10 March 2008

Only had training once today as we start our tournament tomorrow. I relaxed in the afternoon and waited to find out when and who I had to play.

Saturday 8 March 2008

I woke up early because of jetlag. When I walked outside I saw a great view of the mountains with snow peaks. I headed to the club and got the practice organised and accreditation. At least I knew where everything was and numbers to call if I had to.

Friday 7 March 2008

I arrived in Palm Springs.I arrived at night but it was mild out there. I checked into the hotel  had a quick bite to eat and then hit the sack.

Wednesday 5 March 2008

I took off for Sweden where I am resting and training before heading off to Palm Springs to play Indian Wells.

Tuesday 4 March 2008

Another perfect day here in Dubai and I was up against Paul Henri Mattiue (FRA). I played him in Adelaide and won. I was feeling confident going into this match having qualified. I started off serving and got off to a good start. I was broken once and Paul served the set out 6-4. In the second set  i was leading 4-3 and had 0-40 on his serve plus another 3 advantages but I didn't take the chances. I was broken next game and he served the match out 6-4! I dont think we both played as well today. Looking forward to playing him again soon.

Sunday 2 March 2008

Last round of qualies was against Wesley Moodie (RSA). I have never played him before but this time I knew what to expect. Wesley has a great serve and plays well. I was focussed today and won the match 6-1, 6-4. It's a great day!

Saturday 1 March 2008

I played against Michael McClune (USA) in the first round of qualies. I've never played him before and didn't know much about his game. I lost the first set 4-6 but re-grouped to take out the match 4-6, 6-0, 7-6. It was a relief to win this match and get back on the board.

Friday 29 February 2008

Woke up early and practiced in the morning. In the afternoon I caught up with my best mate from school Rob Maranelli. He lives here with his wife and we all went out for dinner.

Thursday 28 February 2008

It was 07.45 and we touched down in Dubai! As we were coming into land, we were flying above the sea and I saw some of the islands they were building. The skyline looked like New York and there was a blanket of pollution above but you could see the blue sky and sun which was important. I took a car to the courts and went to practice.

Wednesday 27 February 2008

I departed Cherbourg and headed to Paris CDG airport to board a flight to Dubai. I was excited as I've never been there before. I have just heard lots about the place and seen pictures.

Monday 25 February 2008

Well I played Alex Bogdanovic (GB) today in the first round of the Cherbourg tournament. This is the second encounter against him. I was not feeling comfortable out there playing indoors. I lost 6-4, 6-2. He played well and was much more used to the conditions than me.

Saturday 23 February 2008

I departed for Paris. I then had to take a train to Cherbourg from Paris-St-Lazar. Of course I missed the last connecting train and had to spend the night in St-Lazar and leave for Cherbourg in the morning. I'm not happy!

Sunday 17 February 2008

I departed for Stockholm, Sweden for a few days to rest and re-group. The weather was cold but fresh. Great city Stockholm. Did a bit of sight seeing. Went to the "Vasa" Museum - An Old ship that was discovered in the waters of central Stockholm.

Saturday 16 February 2008

I was in Rotterdam this week. I was up against Jasper Smit (NED). It was going to be my first indoor tournament for the year. I started off well winning the first set 6-1. Jasper started serving bigger and better and I just happen to slightly lose confidence in the match and saw the outcome slip beneath me. I lost the match 6-1, 2-6, 1-6.

Wednesday 13 February 2008

I played doubles with Sarstrand (SWE) and lost 2-6, 2-6 against Phau and Brands (GER). After the match I booked my flight to Amsterdam where I was going to play Rotterdam qualies on the weekend. Another long flight but ended up being ok.

Tuesday 12 February 2008

I played Ouanna (FRA) in my first round of singles. I've played him before and this time I wanted revenge. I won the first set 7-6 after being down 5-3. At 1-1 in the second set he went down holding his ankle in pain. The thought of the match being over did cross my mind, but he got the physio to spray it and strap the ankle. He continued to play. I had break points on every one of his services but didn't win one! I lost the set 6-7. In the third set I lost 2-6. Was not happy with the result.

Monday 11 February 2008

After training I headed back to the hotel. Just in time it seems as there was a hurricane that came through the area for about 10 minutes. What an experience!

Saturday 9 February 2008

I arrived in East London and while I was waiting for connecting flights I was in contact with the Australian team on how we were going in the doubles back in Taipei. Hewitt and Hanley were combining against Lu and Wang. What I heard was amazing - That the boys won in 5 sets! That meant Australia won the tie 3-0! The next time Australia play will be in April and on home soil in Townsville. Come and cheer them on everybody. Here in East London it's raining and windy. Not what I expected. I went to the club but was a waist of time as it was wet. It's my first time here in south Africa so I hope I get to go on a safari tour.

Friday 8 February 2008

Australia versus Taipei in the Asia/Oceania Davis Cup Tie. Play commenced at 1pm. Before that there was a quick presentation in front of a full stadium immediately followed by what the crowd wanted to see. Hewitt against Ti Chen! Hewitt probably got off to a nervous start but once he got rolling he rubbed in the salt. He won convincingly to put Australia up 1-0. Next up was the big Gooch against Lu. This was a very tight match. In the end Gooch got the better of Lu and put Australia up 2-0. The people were surprised with the turnout because it was Chinese new year. The atmosphere was great! There were the Australian fanatics in the crowd screaming some funny stuff.
I had to depart tonight for East London (South Africa). I was heading there to play a tournament.

Wednesday 6 February 2008

The team only practiced once today. We were all getting a bit heavy in the legs. We were all getting a bit anxious with the Friday matches coming up. The nerves were starting to kick in for the captains and coaches.

Tuesday 5 February 2008

After a couple of days of rain the training kept on going. We got into a routine of morning and afternoon sessions. The team was playing well and we were all getting along. Tonight we had the traditional ten pin bowling match. There were four teams of four. We were all split up. Surprisingly my team won! The funny part was the losing team had to wear pink bunny rabbit ears to the restaurant and eat with them on.

Saturday 2 February 2008

Today we were going to have 2 training sessions. One in the morning and the second in the afternoon. It turned out to be a good workout.

Friday 1 February 2008

This morning I prepared for the trip to Taipei. This was going to be my debut for the Australian Davis Cup Squad. I was a little nervous to tell you the truth. I was travelling with John Fitzgerald and the "Doc". The trip went well and we got to our destination safe and sound. I went straight to bed soon as I got there.

Wednesday 23 January 2008

Today is a very special day indeed - I have been selected to be part of the Australian Davis Cup squad next month! We play the tie against Chinese Taipei.

Friday 18 January 2008

After a long three months, I finally have the opportunity to rest my feet and body. I’ve decided to take a few days off.

Thursday 17 January 2008
I had to play on my first round doubles match today against Wassen & Kas. They were the 16th seeds for the tournament. My partner Sam Groth and I were fired up to take them out. We lost the first set 3-6. We were 4-5 down in the second set and Kas was serving for the match when we finally broke for the first time. We headed for a tie breaker and were successful. Groth and I were pumped going into the third set. Unfortunately we did lose the final set 3-6. I was pleased on how I played today. Looking forward to my next challenge... and a happy birthday to me!

Tuesday 15 January 2008

Well today I was scheduled to play on show court 2 against Janko Tipsarevic (SER). He was ranked 46 ATP in the world and I have never come across him. In the morning I warmed up well and was looking forward to the challenge. The crowd was awesome and right into the match all the way. I lost the first 2 sets 5-7, 2-6.That first set could’ve gone either way. It was a very tight set and I had a break point at 5-5. I set my mind straight in the third set and won it 7-6. This was a great set of tennis and momentum swung my way to take out the forth set 6-0! I was back into this match from two sets to love down. The fifth set looked promising for me as he looked tired. I began serving in the fifth set.
Aussie Open Serve This game was so vital. I was 15-40 down facing break points. I played some great points to have game point. On these big points he played tough tennis and ended up breaking my serve. I guess you can round up the fifth set from that. He played solid tennis on the important points. I lost the set 0-6.  It could’ve been a different story if I had held that first game of the final set. Yes, I am disappointed I lost but I am just going to take the positives out of this result. It just shows me that I do belong there and that I can compete and win at the top.More Aussie Open serves

Friday 11 January 2008

Today was going to be the biggest challenge in doubles ever. Playing on centre court against the number 1 doubles pair in the world , the Bryan twins!
Bryan brothers We enjoyed every minute of it but lost 3-6, 4-6. I didn’t drop serve which I was pleased to say. Alun and I played very well together this week. We are anticipating this to carry this partnership into the Australian Open next week.

Thursday 10 January 2008
In the quarter final of the doubles we played against a very established pair of Aspelin and Knowle. They are ranked 15 in the world as a pair and 6 and 7 individually. We beat them today and what a victory this was. We enjoyed this moment very much.

Tuesday 8 January 2008
I was playing my first round of singles today against Steve Darcis (BEL). He is ranked 80 in the world and I was looking forward to the challenge. I started off flat and lost the first set 1-6. I tried to get back into it but left the run too late and lost the second set 6-7.

Monday 7 January 2008
I signed in for doubles with Alun Jones and we were awarded a wildcard into the event. First up we played Ulliyet and Butarek. Ulliyet is ranked 10 in the world in doubles and his partner around 40. We surprised them by beating them 6-3, 7-6.

Saturday 5 January 2008
The semi final was against Micheal Llodra (FRA)  ranked number 92 in the world. This was the first left handed player I'm playing against this week. He was playing well and broke my serve early and took the set 3-6. I hung in there and hassled him to take the second set to a tie breaker. After having 2 set points of my own I lost the match 3-6, 6-7. Due to making the semi final here I had a special exempt into the main draw in Sydney International. This was a terrific start to 2008 and I have the Australian Open still to come. My ranking has jumped to a career high of 146 ATP.

Friday 4 January 2008
Today I was playing against the number 2 seed of the tournament and number 25 in the world Paul-Henri Mattieu (fra). I started off miss hitting the ball and lost the first set 1-6. That’s not to say it was easy for him as every game apart from 2 did go to deuce.I found my range and started swinging and moving naturally and won the second set  6-1. The third set came down to the wire. I save 2 match points at 5-6 and held serve. The ties breaker was a thriller. I won it 7-5 to take him out and move into the semi final!

Wednesday 2 January 2008
In my second round round I played Sam Querrey (USA). He was ranked 60 in the world. He had a booming serve and forehand. I lost a close first set 6-7. I thought I was a little unlucky to lose it. I switched gears in the second and third sets to win 6-2, 6-3! I was in my first ATP Tour semi final.

Monday 31 December 2008
My first round opponent in the main draw was Radek Stepanek (CZE). He was the number 5th seed of the tournament and was number 30 in the world. Today too was the hottest day of the tournament being 43 degrees - I was ready for the heat and everything else. I won the first set 7-6 by playing tough. In the second set I was 4-3, 30-0 up with a break of serve when he retired against me. Maybe he just couldn’t handle the heat or was it my hunger to win? I won and that’s all that mattered.

Friday 28 December 2007
So, today I was competing in the wildcard playoff final again. This time it was against Alun Jones. Alun started well taking the first set 3-6. I then challenged myself and battled through the hot conditions to win the second set 6-3 and super tiebreak 10-5.Victorious again and into the main draw of the Adelaide International.

Thursday 27 December 2007
Arrived in Adelaide to play the wildcard playoff. There were eight of us involved. Two groups of four players. I had to play Andrew Coelho first up this morning. The forecast weather report for the week was hot hot hot! I played well in the conditions and won 7-5, 6-1. After an hours rest including lunch, I was up against Greg Jones. I wasn’t feeling well from the start of the match due to the lack of time to digest my food. I saw myself 6-0, 5-3 down Greg serving. As he was serving for the match I noticed him stretching his calf muscle. The next point he didn’t run to the ball and that’s when I knew he was in trouble. I moved him around the court as much as I could and he was unable to sustain it. I won this match 0-6, 7-5, 10-2. Talk about lucky escape.

Friday 21 December 2007
This was the day. I was in the final again. This time I want to go one better and win. I was up against Adam Feeney. I played him a few weeks ago and won but with such a big prize at stake anything could happen. The final was the best of 5 sets with Australian Open conditions. We started outside but it wasn’t too long before the rain settled in and we were moved to the Rod Laver Arena to finish our match with the closed roof.

The conditions probably suited Adam more being indoors and he being a serve volley player. I just had to play my game and concentrate and play tough. This I did and I succeeded today to win 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 and know that I will start the 2008 Australian Open as a maindraw player.Steve Wood presents Wildcard Playoff trophy 22 Dec 07 It has been a great end to a long year. Thanks to the friends and family who came out and supported me during this week.Support team

Merry Christmas to everyone and a safe new year!

Thursday 20 December 2007
Ok I was in the semi finals. Today I was playing against Brydan Klein. The last time I played him was this time last year and it was in the semi finals of the wildcard playoff. How bizarre! Today I played very solid and smart. I won 6-4, 6-2 and was in the final of the wildcard playoff!

Wednesday 19 December 2007
Now we were getting to the business side of things. We were up to the quarter finals and from now on if you lose you are out! So today I was up against Matt Ebden. I’ve never played Matt in singles. This was going to be interesting. I started off really well and kept this pressure on for the whole match. I won 6-2, 6-4.

Tuesday 18 December 2007
This was a rest day for us all. I just practiced early in the morning and chilled out for the rest of the afternoon.

Monday 17 December 2007
In the last match of the round robin, I played Greg Jones. Win or lose, it didn’t matter as I finished on top of the group and was going to progress through to the quarter finals. This was a chance to work on some things during this match. I won 6-4, 6-2.

Sunday 16 December 2007
I played Andrew Coelho next. The weather was much better than yesterday and we were on time to play our match. I played tough and solid out there today. Andrew just seemed to get rattled with the wind and made some errors which I think he would not normally make. I won 6-4, 6-2.

Saturday 15 December 2007
The wildcard playoff begins today. There are 4 groups of 4 players. It is going to be played in a round robin format for the first 3 matches. One match a day. Then the top 2 players of each group proceed to the quarter finals. In my group I had; Colin Ebelthite, Andrew Coelho and Greg Jones. After a long day waiting around due to the constant rain, Colin and I walked onto the court to play our first round match. By the time we got on, the time was 6pm! I don’t mind so much with the hanging around but I can see how some players do get frustrated. I began the match ok. I had to be focussed as Colin is a dangerous opponent. I kept the concentration right through the entire match and won 6-1, 6-4.

Friday 7 December 2007
In my quarter final today I played Fritz Wolmarans from South Africa. Never played the big boy before. He was a big serve volley player. The conditions today were rainy and windy. I lost the first set 6-4 and was 4-2 down in the second set. We went off due to a rain delay. I came back and snuck the set 6-4. In the third set I lost 6-3. We had another 2 or 3 rain delays and I had a few chances to break serve but it all came to an end this time. I've had a great 3 weeks and jumped in world rankings to a career high. After this match I had to team up with Groth to play the doubles quarter finals against Monroe and Cerratani from the USA. We won 7-6, 6-7, 10-8 in the super tie breaker. We are looking for a win this week.

Wednesday 5 December 2007

In my second round singles match I was up against qualifier Andrew Thomas (AUS). He's a young kid who has a bright future. He came out with all guns blazing, I wasn't expecting that at all. He won the first set 6-1. I worked him out in the second set and won it 6-3. The third set I saw myself 4-0 down. All I was thinking was to dig deep because if I won I'd have the day off. I did hang in there and won the match 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 wow! After suitable rest I had to team up with Groth to play the doubles first round against Skenderovic (CRO) and Ebden (AUS). We won 7-6, 6-3. Tomorrow is a day off and I'm so happy.

Tuesday 4 December 2007

Adam Feeney was my first round opponent today in the Burnie challenger. After the 2 weeks I've just had I knew this was going to be tough to get through. First round matches of any tournament are always a struggle. I'm pleased to say that I won 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

Monday 3 December 2007
After I flew to Launceston on Sunday night and spent the night there, I finally arrived in Burnie (Tasmania) for the third and last challenger in Australia for the year. I took the day off and chilled.

Sunday 2 December 2007

I was competing in my second challenger in consecutive weeks. I was up against Goo Soeda (JPN). I lost the first set 6-1. Soeda played well and I just had to adapt to his style of play. I fired up in the second set and won it 6-0! The third set I won 6-3 but it was closer than that. I just won back to back challenger titles - you beauty!

Saturday 1 December 2007

I was in the semi finals of the Brisbane challenger against Smeets (AUS). I lost to Smeets last year in the final of the Australian Open wild card play off. I wanted revenge hehe. Smeets was serving for the match at 5-3 in the third set. He got a bit tight and I capitalised and won the set 7-5 and the match 4-6, 6-3, 7-5!

Friday 30 November 2007

Chris Guccione (AUS) was my next opponent in the quarter finals. I was looking forward to this encounter. Last time we played I lost in 3 close sets in Caloundra in 2006. So today I was focussing on a win. I did and won 6-4, 7-6.

Wednesday 28 November 2007

I played against Niland from Ireland in my second round singles match. First time I'm up against him. I started slow seeing myself 2-0 down, but then I concentrated harder and won the match 6-4, 6-2. I was pleased to have the next day off. I need to recover a bit.

Tuesday 27 November 2007

There wasn't much time to take in last weeks win, by the time I knew it I was back on court playing against 8th seed Skenderovic (CRO). We were playing at the Coops Center in Brisbane this week. Suprisingly my body is feeling good. I fought hard to get through this first round match to win 7-5, 7-6 against the strong left hander.

Sunday 25 November 2007

The final today was against Todd Widom (USA). I've never played him before but he was in form and it was going to be a slog match out there in the sun and humidity. I got to a flying start 3-0 up in the first set. Todd picked his game up and grinded back to level the scores. We were heading for a tie breaker. I played a smart breaker and won it 7 points to 2. In the second set I was down 5-2. It was only one break of serve. After saving 3 set points I kept on hanging in there. We again were going to a tie break set. It was a tight breaker but I eventually got my first match point. Todd approached the net and with my trademark backhand I hit a cross court winner! I won my first challenger tournament.

Saturday 24 November 2007

In the semi final today I had to play my doubles partner Sam Groth (AUS). It was going to be tough playing this big serving kid. I had to be concentrated 100%. This I did and played a great match to win 6-3, 6-4. I'm looking forward to playing in the final tomorrow.

Friday 23 November 2007

Alun Jones was my opponent in the quarter finals of the singles today. We always tend to have battles. This was no exception. I won this match 6-3, 3-6, 7-6! I was 4-2 down in the third set and hung in there to take out the win.

Wed 21 November 2007

It was a busy day at the office. I first played Ti Chen (TPE) in my second round of singles. The last time a played him I lost 7-6 in the third but today I played well to beat him 6-3, 6-1. After suitable rest I had to join up with Groth and play our second round doubles against Skenderovic and Cerovic from Croatia. To be honest we were a little flat out there today. We lost the match 6-3, 7-6.

Tuesday 20 November 2007

My first round of singles was against Marinko Matosevic (AUS). I played him a few weeks ago in Adelaide and won. Today I won 6-1, 5-7, 6-3. He picked his form up in the second set but I regrouped to win the third set. Pleased to get through this first round.

Monday 19 November 2007

I only had to play doubles today with my partner Sam Groth. We played against Monroe and Widom both from the USA. We played great and defeated them 6-0, 6-4.

Friday 16 November 2007

I departed for the Sunshine Coast to play in the Caloundra challenger. the first of three challengers in a row. I was in main draw so I practiced on the Saturday and Sunday.

Monday 17 September 2007

This week I'm using the Health City gym in Neunen for some strength work.

Saturday 15 September 2007

I flew back to Eindhoven today and to my surprise Johan had organised VIP tickets in a box at the PSV Stadium to watch PSV Vs Vitesse. It was a great night of football with 40,000 people going crazy with a few fights around the stadium. PSV were victors 1-0.

Wednesday 12 September 2007

My second round opposition was Alessio Di Mauro (ITA). He was number 1 seed and ATP109. He has reached as high as 60ATP. I won the first set 6-3 and was up an early break. At 4-4 I had 2 breakpoints but he came up with an ace and un returnable serve. I ended up losing the set 7-5 and third set. I was mentally shot.

I used the next couple of days to have a look at this historical city. I also caught up with a mate from Melbourne Steve Savino who coaches at this academy in Todi. We had a few laughs.

Tuesday 11 September 2007

I was scheduled to play Moraru (ROM). He's had a very consistent year winning a lot of matches. I was still struggling with the flu and my breathing. I was 7-5, 5-2 down and match point down at 5-3 and came back and won this match 5-7, 7-6, 6-1. I really couldn't believe what happened.
Todi tournie

Sunday 9 September 2007

We played our final match of the season near the Dutch border. neither of our teams played with a full line up. After the singles we were 5-1 up therefore there was no sense in playing the remainder 3 doubles. We won the day 8-1.

Tonight I was dropped off at Brussels airport where I winged a flight to Rome airport. I was playing a challenger in a town called Todi. It was about 2hrs away, luckily for me the very kind people working for the tournament decided to pick me up and drive me to Todi. My head hit the sack around 2.30am! Thankfully I didn't have to play on Monday.

Saturday 8 September 2007

Today we had the chance to become champions for 2 years running. Our opponents had a strong line up and they were all German! We ended up losing 5-41 our title defence gone.

Thursday 6 September 2007

I practiced over the coming days until our match on Saturday...

Wednesday 5 September 2007

We played the French team Liege today... they had Marc Ciqiel (ATP 50) on their side. It was going to be tough for us today but we managed to pull it off and walk away with a win. I played the deciding doubles match and we won in straight sets.

Monday 3 September 2007

Today I had a hay fever attack - itchy nose and could hardly breathe.

Sunday 2 September 2007

I played my first match today and won easily. Our team had their second 9-0 win for the season.

Saturday 1 September 2007
I played Ivo Minar in the semi finals of Freundenstadt challenger today. I beat him earlier this year in the Czech Republic but today I just didn't feel the ball as well as I was during the week. I lost 6-1, 6-4! The second set was tight and could have gone either way. I had the feeling that had I snatched it I would have had the momentum to carry me through to the final.

Later that night I was driven to Stuttgart train station and took a train to Aachen, Germany. I was picked up there and taken to Belgium where I will be playing club matches for the week.

Friday 31 August 2007

I played the quarter finals against Andre Ghem from Brazil ATP 220. I was pleased the way I played. Things were going my way and I was having fun out there. I won 6-1, 6-4.

Thursday 30 August 2007

I played a young Croatian kid with a surname of Mektic. He was a wildcard into the event. He started well and won the first set 6-4 and he was 3-1 up. I took advantage of this little chance he gave me and took out the match 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Wednesday 29 August 2007

Had today off, well just one hour practice and then relaxed all day.

Tuesday 28 August 2007

I played my first round today against 5th seed Marc Lopez (ESP) ATP 175. I had nothing to lose today and played very well. It took a set to get used to the clay again. After losing the first set 6-4, I came back and won 6-3, 6-2!

Monday 27 August 2007

Arrived today in Berlin and then bought a ticket to Stuttgart where the
transport from the tournament picked me up and drove me to the hotel...
so tired!

Sunday 26 August 2007

I was training with Matt Breen and Stephen Huss this morning, then headed back to pack my bags and  get ready to fly back to Berlin. My final destination was Freundenstadt where I'm playing the challenger.

Friday 24 August 2007

I practiced at
Proform Tennis with Matt Breen and Jay Gooding who run their own coaching business in New York.

Thursday 23 August 2007

I finally got on and played Bobby. Played on court 4 and it was a bit of a show court. I wasn't feeling comfortable on the hardcourt and lost the first set 6-1. I turned the match around in the second set and won it 7-6. However I lost the third set 6-3.

Wednesday 22 August 2007

I was scheduled to play 6th match on but play was suspended again due to rain.

Tuesday 21 August 2007

I wasn't scheduled to play today. I had to play the ninth seed Bobby Reynolds (USA) so it was great to get a day to practice more on the hardcourt. There was no play anyway due to rain all day.

Monday 20 August 2007

I am flying out to the big apple today to play the qualies of the US open. I haven't been there since 2003.

Sunday 19 August 2007

There was a lot of pressure to win today and therefore remain in the league. The team we were up against were strong. We knew it was going to be a tough day. After the first 6 matches we were 6-0 down. There was a slight chance if we lost 7-2 and Nordhorn lost 5-4 to Hamburg that we would still be in the league, all we had to do was win at least 2 matches out of the last 3 remaining. We only won one. that was my doubles with Calle Hansen. I found out later that night that Hamburg beat Nordhorn and we were relegated! If only we'd won one more match. I had a great time here in Dresden. Pity we dropped out of the league but there were lots of laughs and stories to tell!

Saturday 18 August 2007
we drove to Berlin today. That's the team we're playing tomorrow. It's my first time here in Berlin and what a city!

Friday 17 August 2007

We played against Nordhorn in Bundisliga today. It was a vital match - if we won today we would remain in the Bundisliga division for the following year. After the first 3 singles we were 2-1 up. Infact we should've been 3-0 up. our number 6 player was a set and 3-0 up and lost! In the end we lost the day 5-4. It really came down to that match our number 6 player lost. We still have one more match to play and chance to remain in the league.

Thursday 16 August 2007

We packed our bags and ventured to Nordhorn... the drive was going to take around 6 - 7hrs!

Tuesday 14 August 2007

We were in Dresden practicing with the team for the next couple of days before heading to Nordhorn to play our match.

Monday 13 August 2007

I had a day off checking out some sights in Dresden. It's a great city!

Sunday 12 August 2007

I trained throughout the whole week and focused on the weekend matches. We played against Hamburg today. It was a really good chance for us to win, and we did 5-4! It was great for the team and club once again. Everyone was so happy, we had a very funny drive back from Hamburg today after the match.

Sunday 5 August 2007

The team played again but we lost 7-2.

Friday 3 August 2007

I returned to Dresden yesterday and today I played a club match against David Marrero (ESP). I was 7-6, 4-1 down and turned this match around and won 6-7, 7-5, 7-6! It was huge for the team and club to win this - this day we as a team won on the day 6-3.

Tuesday 31 July 2007

I played my first round match against Recodourc (FRA). I lost 7-5, 6-2. I remained there and practiced for a few days.

Monday 30 July 2007

Nice place here Trani. There is a port and the hotel is situated right on the water. The sun was shining and I was happy.

Sunday 29 July 2007

I went to Trani, Italy for a challenger event. Another reason I went to Italy was to see the sun as there wasn't any good weather here in Germany.

Friday 27 July 2007

We probably played the second strongest team today in the bundisliga 2. Our team lost 9-0! I was a set and 4-2 up and managed to lose this match... weird!

Thursday 26 July 2007

I ended up leaving for Eindhoven on Monday and had a short break from the court until today. We made our way to Bremerhaven, Germany. This is where we had to play our second club match.

Sunday 22 July 2007

I played the club match against Christian Pless who is ranked 80 in the world. I played great and won 7-5, 6-4! the club were very happy about the result.

Saturday 21 July 2007

I played my first round of quallies against a Spanish player. It was an ok draw but I wasn't prepared well enough for the conditions here. I lost 6-2, 7-6. I was contacted by my club in Dresden after that match and was asked to play there, so I made my way to Dresden!

Friday 20 July 2007

I'm heading to Kitzbule in Austria to play the tour event. I'm looking forward to this and getting out of the cold wet conditions in Britain.
First time I'm playing this tour event. It looks like a very pretty place.

Wednesday 18 July 2007

I had to play Lars Burgsmuller (GER). I lost 3-6, 7-6, 3-6.

Sunday 15 July 2007

I arrived in Manchester to play a challenger on grass but the weather has been so bad that the tournament is being played indoor hardcourt!

Thursday 12 July 2007

I arrived in Rovereto from Holland. I'm here to play an open tournament that they wanted me to play which is held at the club. All went well and I won the singles. I played well and was in good spirits for the coming tournaments.

Wednesday 11 July 2007

We lost to Bopanna and Cueves today in the doubles quarter finals - they were just too good!

Tuesday 10 July 2007

Jasper and I played our first round of doubles today. We won but it was in difficult conditions - lots of wind and rain.

Sunday 8 July 2007

Last round qualies against Dominik Meffert (GER). He played well and beat me 6-4, 6-2. I was first lucky loser but didn't get in so I was left in the doubles with Jasper Smit.

Saturday 7 July 2007

I had a bye in the first round so just had to play second round in the afternoon. I won this match comfortably.

Friday 6 July 2007

I flew to Holland to play the Schevenegen tournament. I signed in qualies and just missed out on maindraw.

Thursday 5 July 2007

We played the semis of doubles today but lost to Germans Zverev and burgsmuller.

Wednesday 4 July 2007

We played our quarter final doubles today and won.

Tuesday 3 July 2007

I played first round singles against Pavlos (RUS). I lost 6-4, 6-3. I couldn't get used to the courts and conditions. I teamed up with Alun Jones in the doubles later in the afternoon. We won our first round against Stadler (GER) and Bohli (SUI) 7-6, 6-3.

Monday 2 July 2007

I was at the club and only practiced today. The courts were synthetic grass with no sand! I just couldn't slide at all and rain rain rain... and it wasn't warm either.

Sunday 1 July 2007

From Zermatt I made my way to Zurich where I had to catch a flight to Dublin. I've never been to Ireland so was looking forward to it.

Thursday 28 June 2007

Made it to Zermatt
It's a great place. Aleksandra and I are
staying at the Grand Zermattherof Hotel, an unreal place. Second time here and will come again no doubt.

Tuesday 26 June 2007

We went to Milan
The Duomo, Milan to chill for two nights before heading to Zermatt
Switzerland. We looked around the town and saw some sites.

Monday 25 June 2007

I was in Venice for the day with Aleksandra. First time I've been there and it was quite beautiful. The water level is rising which isn't so good though.

Sunday 24 June 2007

Finals day today. I planned on doing a friend a favour and beat this
opponent easy. I did so 6-1, 6-2. It was a great end to a great weekend in Trento.

Saturday 23 June 2007

I played the semi final today against Andreas Agazzi (ITA), no relation to the great Andre Agassi hehe. his game suited grass and I won in 3 sets.

Friday 22 June 2007

Arrived in Verona where I was met and driven to Trento to play a grasscourt tournament. I was invited to play here. we played in the middle of a soccer field. had to play 2 matches but luckily the matches were not strenuous. I won them both.

Wednesday 20 June 2007

It was a better day today, the sun was shining but there was a hurling wind hanging around. Our match was moved to court 33. It was a better court to play on. Mahut started off well. He stormed off to a 4-0 lead but I did manage to break him and hold to make it 4-3. We then had a close game but he came out with some aces to hold serve. I then held serve to make him serve out the set at 5-4 which he did so.
In the second set I was broken at 1-1 but at 2-1 his serve I had a break point and played a great return to his feet, where he then picked up a half volley and probably didn't expect to hit it that well deep (and to my feet) jamming me up with the wind behind me. That was the only break point I had for the rest of the set. He held all the way to take the match 6-4, 6-4.

Tuesday 19 June 2007

Well I had to play Nicolas Mahut (FRA) today in the second round qualifying of Wimbledon. in case you didn't know, he was runner up to Andy Roddick in the Queens event last week (actually he had one match point but couldn't convert). We were scheduled to play 4th match but again play was suspended til tomorrow due to rain.

Monday 18 June 2007

Today was my first round of Wimbledon qualifying. I had to play Phillip Symmonds (USA). We were scheduled to play 4th match. Play didn't start until 2pm due to rain. We eventually got on around 6.30pm. I played well and beat him 6-4, 6-2. I was happy with the way I played.

Sunday 17 June 2007

I practiced with the other Aussies at the Bank Of England Roehampton center yesterday and today. They have spent 40 million pounds on this center which is fantastic.

Friday 15 June 2007

Practiced with a mate of mine from Melbourne Dino Dattoli who lives here in Wimbledon now. We couldn't get onto the grass due to rain but did we get onto the fast synthetic courts.

Thursday 14 June 2007

I took off for London, (Wimbledon). I was so happy to board that flight and head over there. I'm staying with my long time friends the Cahn family - they are great.

Wednesday 13 June 2007

I played Jan Mertle today in the second round singles. I lost 7-6, 6-4. weird match as I got sick over night and had a high fever and aching bones all night and day, funny thing was that I nearly won...

Tuesday 12 June 2007

Today I played the first round of singles in Kosice. I had to play a junior who was awarded a wildcard into the event. I won 6-3, 6-1.
Player's party in Kosice

Sunday 10 June 2007

Flew from Basel today to Kosice. I arrived at 1.30am!!!! lucky for me I didn't have to play my first round match until Monday

Friday 8 June 2007

Taking the train from Sassuolo to Zurich today
Zurich, going to meet up with a mate Philip and practice before flying out of Basel to Kosice in Slovakia.

Thursday 7 June 2007

Well it was raining again but it sort of stopped around 11am so we went on to play on courts that were wet and muddy... people just wanted to see him play on clay because it was his best surface, so the frustrating thing is that they were probably didn't want him to play indoors as he wasn't used to it...this was upsetting for me as I sensed that my word didn't count for anything... I lost 6-4, 6-3!

Wednesday 6 June 2007
Again the weather was crap! Rain all day and there was no talk of playing singles indoors, just doubles went on in there. Singles was postponed again til Thursday.

Tuesday 5 June 2007

I forgot to say that he was awarded a wildcard into this tournament in Italy. It was raining all day so play was postponed until tomorrow.

Monday 4 June 2007
I headed to Sassuolo for a challenger... when I arrived there I had a look at who and when I play. I had to play Mariano Puerta! the guy who was done for doping after the 2005 French open final. He was banned for life, then the sentence was reduced to 8 years, then to 2 years - and this was his 2nd time being caught that we know of. Anyway, I tried to put this at the back of my mind. We were scheduled to play on the Tuesday.

Sunday 3 June 2007

Today we played our away match against Ansio in the playoffs. Our team Rovereto is up 4-3 in points and just need 3 more wins to certify that we go up to division 1 next year. Ansio imported another Spanish player to help them. I played Piccari again and this time I had revenge. I beat him 6-7, 7-5, 6-3. it was a great feeling to win and give Rovereto a point closer to A1. We just needed 1 more point for this to happen and 2 doubles to play. I played with my regular partner Ivan Cinkus and we we won in straight sets. We didn't celebrate much because at the end of the day there was a protest and there could be problems with Rovereto going up to A1. It's got something to do with having the right papers signed before the start of the season...it's a joke really.

Saturday 2 June 2007

Arrived in Bologna station where I was picked up by Davide, my team mate, and drove to Ansio, Rome... the weather was cold and raining all the way.

Wednesday 30 May 2007
In the second round I played Timo De Bakker (NED). I lost this match 4-6, 6-4, 2-6. I was tired with all the travel I've been doing and bad sleep I've been having.

Tuesday 29 May 2007

Played my first round against a Matt Simpson (NZL). I won 6-2, 7-5. It's been a while since I've played under lights.

Sunday 27 May 2007

Today our team in Rovereto played our first encounter in the playoffs. The opposition was from Rome. The weather was horrible, rain all day basically, but we managed to finish two matches that Rovereto won, then due to the weather the rest of the matches were postponed till Monday. when we arrived at this other club in Verona (cause our courts in Rovereto were too wet) we started our matches outdoors. I lost the first set 7-6. Then a cyclone hit! We had no choice but to finish the matches indoors. I won the second set 6-2 and was 5-2 down in the third set. I managed to come back and play a tie breaker. I got myself into a winning position but all day things were against me. I lost the match 7-6, 2-6, 7-6! But the great thing is that the team is up 4-2. So when we play this team at their home ground next Sunday, we just need 3 wins out of 6 matches to go up to first division next year..

After all this I had to make my way to Cesena where I was to play a tournament. I arrived after midnight dead!

Friday 25 May 2007
I made my way to Rovereto today. We have a home match on Sunday against a team from Rome. It's playoff time for 1st division!

Wednesday 23 May 2007

I headed back to Eindhoven for practice and rest.

Tuesday 22 May 2007

I had to sign in before 8.30am! Play started at 9am. I was 2nd alternate and it remained that way all day. I had to stay at the courts just in case I was going to get in and play...in the end I didn't. The worst thing is that I would've got in to the qualies if they used my new ranking instead of the 3 week old ranking... next year!

Monday 21 May 2007

I made the journey to Paris. I took a risk of signing in as alternate for the qualies of Rolland Garros.

Monday 14 May 2007

I
flew back to Eindhoven where I'm spending the week training and resting before heading back to Rovereto on Saturday.

Sunday 13 May 2007

We played our last seasonal match for Rovereto before the playoffs. We won 6-0 and finished 2nd on the ladder.

Thursday 10 May 2007

tonight I have to catch a flight at 2.55am! I'm heading to Rovereto, Italy where I'm playing a club match. I will be arriving around 5pm!

Wednesday 9 May 2007

Played Fraile Gorka (ESP) today in the second round of singles today. He is the 2nd seeded player at 150 ATP. I've never played him before but I knew it was going to be a grind fest - he loves the clay. I was a set and 3-0 down when I started figuring him out. I lost 6-4, 7-6! I would like to play him again.

Tuesday 8 May 2007

Didn't sleep well tonight as I didn't know where I was after all the travelling and different beds and hotels and all...I just couldn't sleep.

I played Andrea Stoppini (ITA) in the first round singles. The conditions were hot and windy. I played solid and won 6-3, 6-3. Later today I teamed up with Filip Prpic (SWE) to play the doubles.Filip Prpic and me in Mas Palomas We lost in the super tie-breaker.

Monday 7 May 2007

I started at 6am taking a train to Milan, then had to make my way to Malpensa airport where I boarded a flight to Gran Canaria. I was playing a challenger in Mas Palomas. I arrived at 8pm. It is totally a holiday resort

Sunday 6 May 2007
After making my way back to Rovereto last night from Ostrava, I had to play a club match today. We played Crema. We had to win today to make first place, but we could only manage a 3-3 draw. Now we will only finish second or third.

Saturday 5 May 2007

Heading to Prague to catch a flight to Milan. Final destination is Rovereto.

Friday 4 May 2007

In the quarters of singles I played Dlouhy (CZE). He was around 70 atp last year. I lost 6-2, 6-4, a weird match, I didn't play as well today.     Jones and I lost the semis of doubles to Rosol (CZE) and Knittle (GER) 6-2, 6-4.

Thursday 3 May 2007

I played second round of singles against Ivo Minar (CZE). He was 60 atp a few years ago. I played well to win 7-5, 6-2. I was wrapped to get that under my belt.

Wednesday 2 May 2007

Jones and I played the quarter final of doubles against Popsilis Mertl (CZE). We won 7-6, 7-6 relatively OK. We were down set points but got out of it.

Tuesday 1 May 2007

I played my first round singles match against Marco Crugnuola (ITA). I won the match 6-2, 7-6. I played just OK. I teamed up with Alun Jones (AUS) to play the doubles this week. We played a couple of wildcards and beat them 7-6, 6-4.

Monday 30 April 2007

My journey started at 4:30am. I had to take a shuttle to Amsterdam airport then catch a flight to Prague then catch a train to Ostrava which was my final destination.
View from the train between Prague and Ostrava

Sunday 29 April 2007

Played my third and final match for Wettinseind today
Wettenseind team L-R: Joe, Tuan, Rick, Johan, Frans, Mark. We played on our home courts. I played 3 games and my opponent retired with an injury! I didn't play for the rest of the day, at least our team won 4-2 today. On another note PSV EINDHOVEN (football team) won the national championships today. It was a huge weekend in Eindhoven obviously - the whole city was going crazy!

Monday 23 April 2007

Had all week off and trained in Eindhoven and re-energize for the up coming tournaments.

Sunday 22 April 2007

Played my second club match for Wettinseind. I won my match comfortably but the team lost 4-2.

Tuesday 17 April 2007

I played Lee Childs (GBR) today in the first round of singles. I lost 7-6, 3-6, 6-3! Even though the match went to three sets I didn't feel comfortable out there. Lee served really well and I had my chances but playing on an indoor hardcourt made a big difference today. I was used to the outdoor and I felt the courts were faster than I first thought. Later I played doubles with Stefen Wauters (BEL) against Jasper Smit and Martin Van Hasterin (NED), but lost 6-1 6-3! they were too good on the day.

Sunday 15 April 2007

After a week of training in Eindhoven I played the first match of the season for my club Wettinseind. it was the best day of the week weatherwise. 30 degrees and loving it! the Dutch were struggling with it but I just wanted the sun to get hotter... i won my singles comfortably 6-2, 6-4 and combined with Frans in the doubles to win 6-4, 7-5. unfortunately the team ended up with a 3-3 draw. After my doubles match I quickly packed my bags and drove to Amsterdam airport to take my flight to Cardiff in Wales. I'm playing a challenger there.

Saturday 7 April 2007

After the successful week in Angers I boarded the train and headed for Eindhoven.
Bikes everywhere in Eindhoven Holland It took 10 hours but due to the Easter break there was plenty of room to move and a handy restaurant. Happy Easter people!!
Now I'm resting and preparing for my first match of the season at the club Wettinseind.

Friday 6 April 2007

The doubles final was played today against Juan-Martin Aranguren and Sebastian Uriarte (ARG). We won the match 6-1, 6-1. One of the opponents had a shoulder injury and couldn't play. He stood on the court and the match was over in 23 minutes, nearly a record time!

Thursday 5 April 2007

Played Josselyn Ouanna (FRA) in the quarter finals today. I played him a few weeks ago. It was a bit of a nightmare. I was trying to stick to a plan but nothing was working! He played well today. I lost 6-4, 6-0! It's tough on the mind when you are trying and lose a set 6-0! In the semis of the doubles my partner Dominik and I played against Sebastian Decoud and Damian Patriarca (ARG). They started off playing so good that we didn't know what to do. They didn't miss a ball and were hitting winners from all sides! We lost the first set 6-1 then we tried to completely change our style. We moved so much on the net that they were baffled. We turned the match around and won 1-6, 6-0, 6-1.

Wednesday 4 April 2007
In the second round today I played against a French qualifier, Mathieu Rodrigues. I've never played him before but being French (therefore at home) and coming through qualifying he was going to be a tough opponent. French players are so talented that everyone is dangerous to play even if they don't have a world ranking. In the first set I was just seeing how he played. I was down an early break of serve but came back to win the set 6-4. I started to hit freely and saw myself winning 5-2 but every time he was down he seemed to play better. He saved a couple of match points which gave him confidence and I let him back in the match. At 5-5 I held my serve and broke serve to win the match 6-4, 7-5, it could have easily gone to three sets. Later that night I teamed up with Dominik Meffert (GER) to play doubles against Dupui (FRA) and Sessagimi (SUI). We won 6-0, 6-1 we combined well
Doubles presentation. We stayed at the club for a sponsors dinner and heard a few players playing the guitar and singing, it was quite funny!Player's party, Angers FranceL-R: Pujo, Coutolo, Meffert, Mackin and me at the player's party.

Monday 2 April 2007

This week I'm playing the 15,000+H  in Angers, France. I was in the first match to play on center court. I had to play the wildcard Jouan (FRA) who is a dangerous player that can hit winners from anywhere. He was dominating during the entire match. I was losing 6-3, 5-4 match point down with him serving. I had a feeling he was going to bomb a serve to my forehand luckily I was right - I smashed a forehand winner down the line! He crumbled and I woke up and ended up winning the match 3-6, 7-6, 6-1. Talk about getting out of jail!

Saturday 31 March 2007
I am leaving St Brieuc and heading to Angers for my next tournament.

Thursday 29 March 2007

I played the number one seed today, Christian Pless (DEN). Last time I played him was in Italy and on clay outdoors, today was a bit different. I lost 6-3 6-0! The first set was closer than it looked. I was up an early service break and then broke back after a long game. He gained confidence after this which led him to go for his shots more.

Wednesday 28 March 2007

In my first round of this challenger in St Brieuc I had to play G. Zemlja (SLO). I got off to a slow start but found my rhythm to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Later that day one of the drivers here took me to the port of St Brieuc very nice indeed. Later I had dinner with some Brazilian friends at the local pizzeria!

Tuesday 27 March 2007

I played doubles with Marcio Torres (BRA). We lost against Dustov (RUS) and Matskovski (RUS) 6-4, 7-5. Wasn't a pretty match to watch!

Monday 26 March 2007

I'm at Bologna airport waiting to board my flight to Paris and then take a train to my next tournament in St Briuec.
Port of St Brieuc, France

Sunday 25 March 2007

Rise and shine - It was a 9am start today! It was cold and we are playing outdoors! it looked like it was going to rain too. I was playing number 1 so I was to follow one of the matches that finished first. I played Roberto Ciriolo. He was a good player and worked with the crowd and constantly talked on court. I was 6-3, 4-3 up when it started to rain and we had to go indoors! it was going to be a different game as he was suited to an indoor. I lost the second set 7-5 and after having match points in the third set I ended up losing it 7-5! He took many risks which he pulled off on this day, he was very lucky.

Saturday 24 March 2007

After a few hours sleep I was picked up and taken to the club in Rovereto for a bit of a practice session with one of Roberto's pupils. I had some lunch and then we drove for 3 hours to Pistoia
L-R: Ivan, coach Roberto and me, in Pistoia Italy (near Florence) where we had to play. We then practiced at the club there and checked into our hotel.

Friday 23 March 2007

In the quarter finals I had to play Josselyn Ouanna (FRA) however due to a club match in Italy I had to play this match with low intensity. It's a pity because I was really having fun out there this week and the courts and balls suited my game. I lost 6-1 6-2!

I then had to take a train to Lille then a flight to Milan where I was picked up by Roberto the team coach of my club in Rovereto, and drove for an hour and a half to the city of RoveretoOfficial Rovereto Tennis Club mascot! where I crashed in the hotel room at 2am.

Thursday 22 March 2007

I played Jamie Baker (SCO) in the second round today. I have never played him and was going to have some fun out there; I was seeing the ball and reading the game very well. This made it more enjoyable for me. I won 6-4 2-6 6-4. I lost a little concentration in the second set but got it back together in the end.

Wednesday 21 March 2007

I played Luke
Bourgeois in the first round of the future today. We have been rooming together for the past week and passing on our flu so now we are enemies.. it's almost always the case that you play against the guy you are travelling with. We played a long match today, around 3 hours! I ended up winning 6-7 6-4 7-6.

Monday 19 March 2007
I was in my hotel room at the time with Luke and it just started snowing! We couldn't believe our eyes. It snowed for about 10 minutes only; it was nice to see.

Friday 16 March 2007
We took the TGV train to Poitiers,Poitiers France that's where we are playing the next tournament. The trip took 3hrs. We practiced a little first then headed off to dinner. I think I have picked up the flu from other players and am dealing with it. I'm not 100% at the moment.

Thursday 15 March 2007
Luke and I played the quarter finals of the doubles today against Gregory Carraz (FRA) and his partner Alexandre Sidorenko (FRA). we played a great match but ended up losing 7-6, 6-7, 4-6! The match took 3hrs! It was an entertaining match for the crowd to watch.

Tuesday 13 March 2007
I
ended up signing in doubles with Luke Bourgeois (AUS). Good to have another Aussie at a tournament with you... it was our third time playing together and finally we broke the drought winning our first round match against Jouan Romain and Charly Villeneuve of France 6-4, 6-7, 6-4.

Monday 12 March 2007
I played my first round match against Konstantin Kravchuk (RUS). I knew it was going to be a tough match today against a Russian especially playing indoors and all. They are generally very good players. It was a high standard match but I lost 3-6, 6-4, 4-6.

Sunday 11 March 2007
Happy birthday Ana! I just practiced today and walked around Lille and took some pictures

Saturday 10 March 2007

I took the train to Lille, France from Eindhoven... the trip took 5 hours.

Friday 9 March 2007
During these past couple of days I've been training at Best tennis center. It's one of the federations complex in Holland. I'm still training with Fraens my team mate. After tennis I have been going to Health City which is a gym and everything else. Brand new and great to be there and do a workout.

Friday 2 March 2007
I practiced with Bart Beks who lives around the corner from me in Nuenen. We played at his club in Heldrop.

Thursday  1 March 2007
I drove Aleks back to the Weeze airport as it was departure day...

Wednesday 28 February 2007
We both went to my gym "Health City" in Nuenen for a workout. I then caught up with some friends (Peter& Marcel) whom I haven't seen for ages at the PSV soccer ground. We ate at the cafe upstairs, great place!

Tuesday 27 February 2007
Aleks and I practiced in Best today. I worked her out on the court with some drills and exercises.

Monday 26 February 2007
Aleksandra was arriving from Sweden today for a few days. I picked her up from Weeze airport in Germany - very close to Eindhoven.

Saturday 24 February 2007
Arrived well in Holland. back at the house and relaxing!

Friday 23 February 2007
We played the doubles final against Sitak & Sitak (RUS). We lost 7-6, 6-3! We had chances in the first set but it didn't go our way..

After the match I quickly got my bags together and jumped on a train to Bergamo airport. I didn't have a flight to Germany and was going to wing it! (meaning buy a flight at the counter). I wanted to go and play qualies of the challenger in Wolfsburg, Germany.

Due to train punctuality in Italy I had to cancel the trip to Germany and crashed at the airport for the night and got a flight back to Holland in the morning.

Thursday 22 February 2007
Raph and I played the semis of the doubles against Krasnorutsky (RUS) & Pavlovs (LAT). We won 6-1, 7-5. We played well again.

Wednesday 21 February 2007
I played doubles with Raph Durek. He's from Sydney and it was the first time we were pairing up to play doubles. We had a bye in the first round so we started off from the quarter finals. We played  Stoppini & Stoppini (ITA). We won 7-6, 6-3.

Tuesday 20 February 2007

Monday 19 February 2007
Woke up this morning and saw the view from my hotel room - it was amazing! I arrived at night so I didn't get to see anything then. We were surrounded by snow capped mountains.

Sunday 18 February 2007
I went to Trento, Italy which took all day!

Saturday 17 February 2007
Again trained at the same place and with Fraens this morning.

I was then taken out by Johan (who is our team manager) to have a look at the carnival which was taking place in Eindhoven. This is a tradition in which only the southern region of Holland takes part, very amusing! everyone dresses up and parades in public then go out with what they are wearing to bars and clubsColourful paradeI checked a bar out with a mate of mine Folkert, from the tennis clubCarnival friends This goes on for four days...

Friday 16 February 2007
I practiced with Freans who is a team member of our club in Holland Wettenseind. We went to practice in town called Best.

Wednesday 14 February 2007
Happy Valentine's day to everyone!

I finally touched down in Amsterdam. It was raining but at least it wasn't snowing... the temperature was 6C - quite a change from the extreme heat I left back in Melbourne! I grabbed my bags and hopped on a train to Eindhoven where I picked up the car and drove to settle in the house.

Tuesday 13 February 2007
I departed today for Amsterdam. I got lucky with an exit seat, but it was the middle seat. On one side I had a very slim man and on the other side of me I had a rather large man. No one spoke for the entire 21 hour flight and sleeping was a little difficult due to the snoring and the constant playing of video games by these guys.

Sunday 11 February 2007
Rameez and I played the doubles final against Nathan Healy (AUS) and Robert Smeets (AUS). We lost 7-6, 6-4. We played the best match of the week, even after being a little unfortunate in the 1st set tie breaker, but overall we had a good week and a good start to the year.

Saturday 10 February 2007
I lost my semi final singles match against Greg Jones (AUS) 6-3, 6-2. He had one of those days where every ball went his way. He went for his shots and played well. I'd like to play him again.

Friday 9 February 2007
My quarter finals singles match was against Bastian Knittel. I played well and felt comfortable out there on the court. I then played the semi final doubles match against Adam Feeney (AUS) and Carsten Ball (USA). They were number 2 seeds and we won 2-6, 6-3, 10-5.

Thursday 8 February 2007
Rameez and I played our quarter final match against Dekel Valtzer (ISR) and Grega Zemlja (SLO) and we won 6-4, 6-7, 10-4.

Wednesday 7 February 2007
I played John Paul Fruttero (USA) today in the second round of the singles. I won 6-3, 6-4. I felt fit and good.

Tuesday 6 February 2007

Thursday 11 January 2007
I had a lot more match practice under my belt leading up to the open this year compared to last year. I had to play Michal Mertinak from Slovakia (ATP 183). I was happy with the draw and the way I was playing. After a long wait we went out on court. Michal was playing solidly; I lost the 1st set 6-3. This fired me up and I won the 2nd. Getting a good start in the final set was of course vital. I had too many chances and blew it. I ended up losing the set 6-2, I was guttered. Even so, I still thought I had a good chance of being awarded a wildcard into the doubles or mixed but I was wrong! It seems the handing out of wildcards is too subjective – if a younger player had the same results as I did during the past year would he have received one? We’ll never know I guess. But I do hold my reservations about the way we lament the lack of Aussie tennis players while at the same time not provide to all Aussie players the exposure to the great tennis players from around the world. Not issuing a general pass to all Australian players at our home championship seems a little tight, how are players like ourselves supposed to improve our game when we can’t practice with top international players…

Saturday 6 January 2007
I had to play Evgueni Korolev from Russia (ATP 102). The kid is good but I was playing OK. It was a hot Summers day on the rebound courts. We had a great match but I did lose it 7-5, 6-4. I thought I played OK. I left for Melbourne the next day to prepare for the Australian Open qualifying rounds.

Thursday 4 January 2007
It was an early start. No sign of rain today thankfully. I continued to play solidly from where we left off yesterday, I won the 2nd set 6-2 which meant I was in the final again this time against Luke Bourgeois (ATP 367). We played an afternoon match. Luke always tends to play well here in his home state. He was serving well and got off to a good start. He won the first set 6-3. he continued serving well in the 2nd set. He was up a break of serve then I found myself serving to stay in the match at 5-3 (0-40). Luke had three match points. I won this game and made him serve out the match. At 5-4 to Luke we played the longest game of the match. I saved a further 5 or 6 match points and also had 3 or 4 break points. I lost this game and match. Something happened in this game that could have resulted in a different story but only those present can know what I am referring to… now I had to wait here until Saturday to play in the qualifying rounds.

Wednesday 3 January 2007
I played in the first round against Greg Jones (ATP 1542). Greg is another junior up ‘n’ comer so didn’t know much about him. I played well and beat him 6-3, 6-2. later in the day I had to play Paul Baccanello (ATP 276). The weather wasn’t looking good, it was going to rain. We started our match with me winning the first set 7-5. I was up a break of serve and it started to rain. There was a long delay. We tried to play again but then the light was too poor as it was getting late. We had to complete the match the n
